Show Tunes Sunday
Following I love Betsy, Jack and Betsy go to the jewelry store. In the store, the clerk becomes his dead mother as she tells him to “Never Get Married” in a flashback causing him to freak out and leave the store.
Betsy is very upset and sings the song “Anywhere but Here” prompting Jack to tell her they will leave for Vegas right away and get married. The scene changes to show Buddy Rocky welcoming you to Vegas and telling you what you hear “When You Say Vegas.”
During the song, we meet Tommy Korman and Johnny Sandwich, a Vegas hotshot and his doofus sidekick. We learn that Betsy looks exactly like Tommy’s dead wife. He sings to himself about how she died of skin cancer from spending too much time and wouldn’t get “Out of the Sun.”
In an attempt to steal Betsy away from Jack, Tommy plans a poker game and send him an “Invitation.” In an attempt to convince Betsy to let him go, he tells her that “Forever Starts Tonight” after they get married and begs her to let him have one last hoorah.
During the game, Betsy goes around the stores singing to herself that “Betsy’s Getting Married” and on the other side of the stage we see the poker game as it goes on. At the end of the game, Jack loses 58,000 to Tommy which he can’t afford to pay. Tommy thinks maybe they can “Come to an Agreement” and proposes that he take Betsy for the weekend in exchange for the 58,000 dollars.
Beginning to get cold feet, Buddy Rocky sings telling Jack to “Do Something” to keep his wife. As Betsy and Tommy get on the plane to Hawaii, the curtain closes.
After the gorgeous entr’acte we meet the people of Hawaii and then Betsy tells us that she is waiting for Jack to come around in “Waiting for You.”
Jack’s plane lands in Hawaii and he is met by a local that tells him that “Ev'ryday Is Happy in Hawaii” and sets him up with Mahi. Right after Jack leaves, he calls Johnny Sandwich and we learn that they are trying to keep Jack away.
In the car, Mahi attempts to seduce Jack in the hysterical “Friki-Friki” The audience then returns to Tommy and Betsy where Tommy sings a song that his wife used to love that Betsy also knows and they both sing together “You Made the Wait Worthwhile”
Betsy agrees to marry Tommy and he jumps into a song that there is nothing “A Little Luck” can’t do with Johnny. We then arrive at “The Garden of Disappointed Mothers” with Jack and Mahi where he tries to break his mother’s curse stopping him from getting married.
He asks his mom “Isn’t That Enough” about how Betsy treats him. After speaking to his mother, he races to the airport to find out that there are no direct flights. But the 3 employees try to put him on connecting flights in the “Airport Song.”
He gets a direct flight to Vegas with a bunch of people dressed like Elvis. He will later learn that these are the Flying Elvii during “Higher Love.” Back in Vegas, Betsy begins to regret her decision and sings “I’ve Been Thinking.” Afterwards she begins to hear someone screaming her name as the “Elvii in Flight” start to land and Jack comes flying onto the stage from a parachute. They sing “Honeymoon in Vegas” and his mother comes down and gives her approval and the curtain goes down.
